Justin Bieber Tattoo Pictures: Did Justin Bieber Get a Tattoo?

Justin Bieber got inked! He’s only 16, but daddy Bieber gave his permission and accompanied his son to the Son of a Gun tattoo parlor in Toronto, where the Bieb got his very first tattoo—of a bird on his belly.

Photos of the Bieb getting his tattoo surfaced on Monday and the reports have been confirmed. Bieb got the tat in March. His dad posed for a photo with the tattoo parlor staff and gave a thumbs up to the camera after it was finished.

Photos of Justin Bieber getting a tattoo took the Internet by storm on Monday, with many wondering both what the ink actually depicts and whether or not it was real.

Well, Brian Byrne, co-owner of Son of a Gun Tattoo and Barbershop in Toronto, where Bieber got his new ink, broke down the story for MTV News via phone on Tuesday (May 18).

"It was back in March, March 4th or 5th" Byrne said. "The guy who tattooed him, Charlie, is a lifelong friend of Jeremy's, Justin's dad — they're all from Stratford. When it came up, he called Charlie and asked if he could do it and keep it quiet. We made sure the shop was empty and there was nobody around."

Byrne also confirmed reports that the tattoo was a celebration of both Bieber's birthday and family tradition.

"It was a 16th birthday tattoo," Byrne said. "I guess his dad has it, and one of his uncles. It's the outline of the seagull from Jonathan Livingston Seagull."

During the process, Byrne said that Bieber was a trooper throughout — particularly because the area he had tattooed, his left hip, is extremely sensitive. "That's a bad area, definitely. He was great. He was nervous but then got into it and it was done. It's very tiny.

"He laid there and sucked it up, his dad took a bunch of pictures and video and everybody talked to him. He's a very nice kid."

As for the legality and parental consent, Byrne confirmed that Son of a Gun has strict policies about whom they tattoo. "Our rule at the shop is: no necks, no hands, unless you're over 25; and you don't get tattooed at all unless you're 18 years old."

That rule bends slightly, Byrne explained, if you have a parent with you, and depending on what type of tattoo it is. "[We'll do it] if you're 16 and you have your parental consent, and it's a memorial tattoo or some type of family tattoo. We're pretty sticky with that. We don't want kids running around with garbage on them that [they'll later regret]."

With all the press their shop has now received, Byrne joked that they're thinking of renaming it the "Tattooed Bieber Shop."

"At least if the kids who love him can't get tattoos, their moms can."

Son of a Gun Tattoo and Barbershop opened in November 2009 and is co-owned by Byrne, CJ Owen, and Paul Rogers. They're already getting ready to open new locations. And, naturally, Byrne would be happy to have Bieber in for more work, should he want it.

"We're ready for him anytime."

Maori Tattoos

Maori tattoo designs
Maori Tattoos
Maori tattoos are among the most distinctive tattoos in the world and have their own identity amongst the Polynesian tattoos. Tattooing is a sacred art among the Maori people of New Zealand, and probably came to them from the islands of East Polynesia.

Maori tattoo art is very beautiful, consisting of curved shapes and spirals in intricate patterns. Distinctive for Maori tattoo designs is the fact that they are based on the spiral and that they are curvilinear. The most prevalent place for a Maori tattoo was the face, probably a result of the cool New Zealand climate.

Traditional Maori Tattoos: Ta Moko

"Maori tattoo art is different from traditional tattooing in that sense that the Maori tattoo was carved into the skin with a chisel, instead of punctured".

Maori tattoos

Ta Moko

Traditional Maori tattoos are known in the Maori language as ta moko:

  • Ta moko: literally the words ta moko translate as to strike or to tap. The term refers to the process of tattooing in the Maori traditions.
  • Moko: the tattoo design itself – the finished product.

The Maori tattoo consists of bold spiral designs covering the face, the buttocks and the legs of the Maori men.

Maori women were usually tattooed on the lips and chin and in some cases on the neck and the back.

Tattooing has a sacred significance – the Maori tattoo design itself, and the long and painful process of acquiring the tattoo (Maori tribe tattooing was done with bone chisels).

Maori Tattoos: The Legend

The precise history of the Maori tattoo is rather vague, but we do know the legendary source. According to legend, ta moko came from the underworld:

Ta Moko

Te Puni Maori Chief

When Mataora, a young warrior, fell in love with Niwareka, the princess of the underworld, she agreed to come aboveground to marry him. When he mistreated her, however, Niwareka went back to her father’s kingdom.

Eventually, sick with guilt and with his face paint smudged, Mataora made his way down to the underworld to try to win her back. He succeeded, and Niwareka’s father taught him the art of Maori tribe tattooing as well! Mataora brought ta moko – Maori tattoos - as well as other skills he had picked up in the underworld, back with him, and the ideas caught on.

Maori Tattooing: The Ritual

Maori Tattoo Art

Maori tattooing would usually start at adolescence, and was used to celebrate important events throughout life. The first tattoo marks the transition from childhood to adulthood and was done during a series of rites and rituals. Tattoo art was an important part of the Maori culture – in fact, people without tattoos were considered to be without status or worth.

Needless to say, tattooing by making incisions with a chisel was a painful process, but traditional Maori tattoos were meant to be more than decorative – they were a show of strength, courage and status. Both men and women were tattooed, though women substantially less (maybe because there was less of a need for them to show courage) and on other places (usually the lips and chin).

The process of Maori tattooing was a ritual, with music, chant and fasting – in fact, fasting was more or less a necessity, because the face would swell up from the wounds caused by the tattooing process!

The tattoo specialists in the Maori culture were usually men, although there are some women who also were tohunga ta moko (moko specialists).

Modern Tribal Maori Tattoo

Maori Tribal Tattoo

Modern Tribal Maori Tattoo

The Maori traditions such a tattooing lost much of its significance after the coming of European settlers. Ta moko for men stopped being popular somewhere in the middle of the 19th century. Moko for women continued throughout the 20th century.

Since the 1990s the Maori culture and traditions are having a revival and the traditional Maori tribe tattooing is all but extinct, Maori tattoos have made a comeback and are popular again, including the old tattoo equipment like chisels.

In the west, Maori-inspired tattoos are in vogue as well. Many of us appreciate the bold statement that Maori tattoo designs make, and this style of tribal tattooing is growing in popularity.

Modern Maori tattoos are usually found on the body rather than the face, and usually (but not always) modern tattoo equipment and ink are used – but the traditional ta moko inspired designs have a universal and timeless appeal.

Celebrities With A Maori Tattoo

Here's a list of celebrities with Maori tattoos:
  • Robbie Williams: celebrity with a Maori sleeve tattoo, done by Henk Schiffmacher, a Dutch tattoo artist.
  • Ben Harper: singer and guitar player, has Maori tribals all over his body.
  • Mike Tyson: ex-boxer with a Maori inspired tattoo on his head.

Twenty Trippy 3D Tattoos

HDF3HTXJ95RA
(Unique code of technorati.com)

If you’ve grown tired of simple and traditional tattoo designs, you might want to consider getting a cool 3D (three-dimensional) tattoo.
For a certified Meat, this could be a welcome change, especially that tattoos in three dimensions generally produce very realistic images and designs. For a Tenderfoot who frowns at the ubiquity of popular tattoo designs and symbols, getting a 3D ink would prove to be an exciting first step into the world of tattoos.
Lost? Get up to speed with the Ultimate Guide to Tattoo Slang…
One huge advantage of 3D, or 3-dimensional, tattoos over regular tattoo designs is the production of a more vivid and real image, primarily caused by adding depth into the design. Depth is mainly accomplished by putting in the right amount of shadow techniques to the design to make it look like it is really occupying a specific amount of space on a certain area. The product is a tattoo that greatly depicts a very realistic image or setting.
Across 7 categories, check out 20 eye-popping three dimensional tattoos.

3D Animal tats. Those things almost look real, don’t they?
">

Grave + skin disease - which is more frightening?
">

Sun and lion. I just want to peel that sun off that skin.
">

‘A HOLE New World’ meets What Lies Beneath.
">

Animated ambiguity - these trippy tats are straight-up confusing.

Kat’s statement about the line:
“People have always asked me what I would be doing if I wasn’t a tattooer, and the only thing I could imagine being as fulfilling as tattooing would be doing makeup! Amazing Tattoo World Records

The world of tattoos has always been associated with the divisive, the weird, and the unusual. The wayward comparisons have softened over the years, with tattoos consistently inking mainstream society, however the remnants of the past are hard to erase entirely.
In honor of the bizarre history of the tattoo industry, we discovered the most amazing tattoo and piercing stunts ever completed by human beings as listed (or soon to be listed) in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Record: Most Tattoos in 24 Hours
This new category in the Guinness Book of World Records is set to appear in the 2009 edition. A number of tattoo artists from all over America have already attempted to make it to the book list. Some of them have already set record-breaking feats, even surpassing the 500-tattoos-in-24-hour mark.
In order for a tattoo to be counted in this particular category, the tattoo artist needs to make sure the tats have a dimension of at least 1.25 x 3 inches, a minimum of two colors, and every tattoo must be recorded for Guinness Book eligibility.
Some notable tattoo artists who attempted to create a world record for the category Most Tattoos in 24 Hours include:
Derek Kastning, a tattoo artist from Tyler, Texas who works for Rat-aTac-Tat Tattoos set a new record of 726 tattoos in 24 hours in October 2008.

John ‘Joker’ McManus, a tattoo artist from West Monroe, broke the record set by Kastning by making 775 star tattoos in 24 hours on November 2, 2008. He also broke the 8-hour record of 240 by completing 331.

However, McManus’s celebration was short-lived as Hollis Cantrell from Phoenix, Arizona broke the former record with Cantrell’s 801 ‘AZ’ tattoos in 24 hours in November 2008. Apparently, Cantrell is the man to beat this year. Will another tattoo artist take the challenge and ink a much higher feat?

Record: Most Tattooed Person
This word record was once held by a controversial dude named Tom Leppard who is more popularly known as the Leopard Man. Apparently getting the inspiration from his last name, Tom covered his entire body with leopard-like spots.

Leppards’ impressive tattoo covering was surpassed by an Aussie tattoo enthusiast, Lucky Diamond Rich, who literally covered his entire body with ink. Yes, he is a certified tattoo freak, covering every inch of his skin with tattoo. I don’t think anybody could beat a 100% tattooed man in this category. This is the ultimate level and anyone trying to do the same would just be a poor copycat.
Lucky underwent over 1,000 hours of tattoo sessions by hundreds of tattoo artists. He once tried to collect colorful designs from around the world and tattooed them over his entire body. Not satisfied with the already extraordinary feat, Lucky decided to have a 100% covering of black ink that included his eyelids, skin between the toes, down into the ears, and even his gums. Still not contended with the whole thing, Lucky decided to cover the black ink with white designs, and colored designs on top of the white.

Record: Longest Tattoo Session
At 43 hours and 50 minutes, Stephen Grady and Melanie Grieveson of Australia are holding the world record for the longest tattoo session. Grady and Melanie are from Twin Cities Tattooing studio, and both broke the record by 1.5 hours.
Grieveson entered the book records not only as a record breaker but also the first woman to ever attempt the feat.

Record: Most Body Piercings
If you think your proud local body-piercing buddy who’s gotten a Prince Albert, and a number of other jewelries planted on his body, is the king of body piercings, think again. Robert Jesus Rubio from United States of America is holding the world record for the most number of body piercings on a human being with 900 surgical needles inserted into his body. These 18-gauge surgical needles are 1.2 cm long - inserted on May 29, 2008.
Record: Most Pierced Woman
Elaine Davidson may not land on the list of Most Powerful Women in History or in any list with Oprah or Hilary, but she currently holds the world record for most piercings on a woman. Elaine has a record of 720 piercings; 192 on her face and 462 on her body. She has been holding the record since May 2000.

Record: Most Body Piercings in One Session
So you think getting one piercing is tough enough? But for Kam Ma, from UK, getting one piercing in one session is child’s play. A real man gets 1015 piercings at once. That’s exactly what Kam Ma did on March 4, 2006 at the Sunderland Body Art with Charlie Wilson. Both performed the feat in 7 hours and 55 minutes.

Top Five Hottest Female Tattoos in Hollywood

A new age is upon us and it’s a permanent one. While cultures around the world have endorsed the use of the female body as a canvas for centuries, only in the last decade has Hollywood begun to see a very literal unveiling of both new and old ink.

Celebrity female tattoos continue to make their premier on the ankles and inner-arms of the red carpet today. But, if mainstream media culture is ready to see skin, why are so few of these tattoos actually good?

Historically an accessory for rockers and musicians, tattoos have come a long way from burly barbed-wire armbands and butterfly tramp stamps, to mile markers of life events and literal works of art. The Dixie Chicks chart gold and platinum albums with chicken footprints on their feet while Angelina Jolie commemorates the birth of her children by tattooing the longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates of their birthplaces on her shoulder.

Despite an increase in tolerance for permanent body art and modification, however, it would seem that pop culture isn’t quite ready for full sleeves and back pieces to be gracing the pages of People and Us Weekly. Instead, appearing frequently on actresses and socialites, are the tiny “vacation trinket” style female tattoo designs of hearts, stars, and things with wings (butterflies, dragonflies, faeries, ladybugs) in predictable locations: the ankle, the foot, the small of the back, and the inner wrist or forearm.

Such tiny allotments of space don’t allow for much artistic license, and, while they may be easy to cover up for film shoots, the final product suffers. The media, however, doesn’t seem to mind that beautiful women have poorly placed or unseemly, albeit tiny, tattoos. In fact, fluent socialites and fashion critics seem to refer to female tattoos with a reverence akin to accomplishment or self-sufficiency. The female celebrity with a tastefully discreet or meaningful tattoo is admired for asserting her individuality and therefore personalizing and owning her own body in the midst of constant social scrutiny and media consumption.

In exposing their ink, female celebrities seem to make themselves more human, advertising themselves as more than just the movies or music they make. Still, with all the commercial tattoos taking up body space on screen, are there any truly hot tattoos? Definitely. Check out the top five hottest female tattoos in Hollywood.

One might start with the Queen of Ink herself, Kat von D, originally of Miami Ink and more recently of High Voltage Tattoo on LA Ink. Self-designed and placed, Kat’s unusual eighteen-star cluster of stars around her left eye are a permanent part of the makeup masterpiece she applies daily, and only a fraction of the very personal and professionally designed ink that covers most of her body.
http://mag.rankmytattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/katvd.jpg
Philadephia’s home-bred rapper, Eve, sports symmetrical paw prints on the tops of her cleavage, a flirtatious warning for anyone who might try to cause her trouble. Like Eve, the tattoos can be softened up or become truly intimidating depending on what she’s wearing and how she holds her body. A really great tattoo seems to meld with an individual’s personality and remain flexible to them as a person.
http://mag.rankmytattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/eve.jpg
Alicia “P!nk” Moore is a rabid fan of the tattoo gun, memorializing benchmark moments in her life, including ink for her first single and the passing of her favorite pooch. Sexiest of all, however is the solid black serpentine dragon on her upper left thigh. Very in tune with her body and how it draws strength from her mind, P!nk’s solid block of ink is assertive and sensual all at once.
http://mag.rankmytattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/pink.jpg
Similarly, Christina Ricci’s sexy sparrow tattoo dives across the majority of her right breast, peaking out at the neckline of only the deepest plunges. In full color and rockabilly style, the ink is not only a classically foxy surprise, but a sweet contrast to her other linework.
http://mag.rankmytattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/christina.jpg
Ani diFranco, on the other hand, sports a delicate tribal sprawl across her breastplate. The tattoo is both elegant and fierce, accentuating diFranco’s feminine bone structure but emphasizing her toned muscles and sculpted figure.
http://mag.rankmytattoos.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/ani.jpg
Some tattoos are inked with intense personal meaning behind them, others not at all. What each of these truly hot female tattoos have in common, however, is a disregard for discreet, and a true connection between the tattoo and the individual, so as to create a seamless projection that reflects its owner at all times. Each tattoo is personal in ways that assert the celebrity’s strength and scrappiness while simultaneously exuding mesmerizing femininity.

Celebrities aren’t the only females that rock tattoos. Read up on: Femininity in the Tattoo Industry, and check out the best female tattoo design photos.
